A Wibbly Wobbly Question: Is The Doctor a…?

WARNING!:

THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS FROM LAST WEEKS EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO!!

In last weeks episode of Doctor Who titled “Listen”, we got a lot of backstory on our newest character Danny Pink. But what most of us WERE NOT expecting was to get some backstory on the Doctor himself. Towards the end of the episode Clara accidently sends the TARDIS into the Doctor’s own past as a young child on Gallifrey. There we learn that the Doctor is actually a very scared child and has to sleep in a barn so that his crying does not wake the “other children.”  They then mention that unless he gets over his fears he will never join the Academy and become a “Time Lord.” Until now Time Lord has always been somewhat of a reference to the Doctor’s race. The planet is Gallifrey, the language is Gallifreyan, but the people are Time Lords. Now, we’re made to wonder, is Time Lord actually a title and if so is it a MILITARY title? Does the Doctor’s dislike of soldiers and warriors have more behind it besides his own past in the Time War?

Time Lord, is it a title or a race of people?

If it is a title, does that mean that the Doctor in fact was or is a soldier of Gallifrey?
