With the second issue coming out this Wednesday, I realized I’d completely missed putting up my review of the first issue of this brand new, brutally metal comic book. Following the animated adventures of the world’s biggest Death Metal band, Dethklok. The new series finds the brutally clueless quintet embarking on a new marketing scheme into the world of frozen dinners with the totally brutal, Hypothermifood! Brendon Small and John Schnepp are two of the driving forces behind the show, so seeing them on board with the comic gave me hope right off the bat and they do not disappoint. Reading the new book you can hear the characters in your head reciting the lines and it’s pretty much word for word what you would expect to hear from these guys.

The art very much follows the style of the show, while changing a bit to be unique and new. In some frames you notice that it is almost anime like in how their faces and expressions are drawn, just a little over exaggerated.  There’s even a twitter joke in the book making you feel like you could follow Murderface! (BTW, the account exists but there are no posts if you’re going to bother looking…) The issue plays out like a full length episode of the show, or in Metalocalypse’s case 15 minutes. If you’re a fan of the shows humor, do yourself a favor and go pick up the first issue from your local comic shop! If that’s not enough, issue number one features Doctor Rockso, the Rock and Roll Clown! He does cocaine, by the way.
