Usually the Royal Rumble pay-per-view marks the beginning to what the WWE calls the Road to the Wrestlemania. The storylines are set up to take us in the biggest wrestling pay-per-view of the year and we start to find out the matches we’ll be seeing. Recent title changes have included Wade Barrett winning the Intercontinental title off Kofi Kingston and at Tuesday night’s Smackdown taping saw Alberto Del Rio win the World Heavyweight Title off the Big Show in a Last Man Standing match. At the upcoming Royal Rumble we’ll be seeing CM Punk take on the returning People’s Champion, The Rock for the WWE title as well. Now the question is where are we going from here?

Since The Rock’s surprise win over John Cena at last years Wrestlemania and then announcing on RAW the next night that he would be champion again, many fans have speculated about what course the WWE title would take over the next year and this fan is happy to say that CM Punk has held onto the title for WELL over a year now. Will CM Punk defeat the Rock at Wrestlemania and go on to defend his title again on the Grandest Stage of them all? Or will CM Punk’s lengthy reign end with The Rock reclaiming the WWE title after 10 years? Many seem to feel that the possibility of Rock winning and going against Cena again at Wrestlemania seems to be what they’re setting up, with Cena then picking up the win at Mania and becoming the champ again. Remember, Punk has been champion for a loooong time now, which means Cena HASN’T been champ for a loooong time. But let’s face it, after the swerve the WWE delivered to fans with Rocky coming out over Cena before means they still have it in them to surprise us so-called “Smart Fans” or “Marks.” Could Punk pick up the win at Rumble and go into Mania champion?

Ziggler still holds his Money in the Bank contract for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship.

Just as interesting to me is the World Heavyweight Title picture. Big Show had been champ for quite awhile and looked to retain the title until at least Wrestlemania, in my eyes. But with the sudden win from Del Rio putting the strap back on him, where do we go now? Del Rio has been jumping around a lot lately and seemingly became a face over night and walks a fine line between heel and face. Usually when he has the strap however, Del Rio tends to be a transitional champion at best, set up for someone else. Dolph Ziggler still holds the Money in the Bank contract which he has not cashed in (officially) yet which means he has a shot at the World Heavyweight Title whenever he wants. It seems more likely that Dolph is going to cash in his contract on Alberto and finally become a world title holder. Don’t forget either, Ziggler is currently involved in a feud with Cena as well. Could putting the strap on Ziggler mean bringing Cena into the World Title picture as opposed to the WWE title?

Let’s face it, WWE has us on our toes for once as fans. It’s incredibly hard to predict who is going to win, when, and where storylines are going and that’s how it should be! WWE had grown stagnant for awhile and been so predictable is was pathetic. But the biggest Wrestling company in the world seems to be recovering with new names and faces as well as new storylines and finally giving other guys a chance to shine. The Road to Wrestlemania is about to begin folks! To quote good ol’ JR “Business is about to pick up!
