The Muppets: The Green Album

OK Go & The Electric Mayhem!

Today is the birthday of the creator of the Muppets, the late Jim Henson so it seems only appropriate to review The Muppets The Green Album! There aren’t many thing I love in life more than the Muppets. Since an early age I’ve watched reruns of The Muppet Show, Muppet Babies, Fraggle Rock, all the movies, specials and more. Even today things haven’t changed much as far as my love for all things Muppet go. The Green Album was released in late August, a 12 track album of some of todays best artists covering their favorite Muppet songs. Alkaline Trio, Weezer, OK Go, Amy Lee and even Brandon Saller from Atreyu sing songs like Rainbow Connection, I Hope That Something Better Comes Along, Moving Right Along and of course OK Go perform The Muppet Show theme. In the video below you can see the band perform their rendition with the Muppets themselves. The group of zany puppets are becoming well known for their music video appearances as bands like Saves the Day and Weezer have previously featured them in videos for their own songs.

The great thing about the Green Album is that you don’t have to be a fan of the Muppets to love some of these songs. In fact if I were to play most of the tracks for you without telling you they were Muppet songs, you would have no idea. Well, not including the Muppet Show theme of course, that’s a given. Available in stores, on ITunes and other music download venues, I believe the Green Album is a great tribute and a great way to ramp up for next months release of the new film, The Muppets. Go take a sneak peek at the songs if you can, pick and choose if they don’t all catch your ear, and if you’re a die hard Muppet fan like I am? Pick up the entire album.

PETERĀ knows it’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight!
