What I’m Thankful For

It’s that time in the USA again where we sit down, over indulge in food and alcohol, spend time with our families (whom you may or may not like), and prepare for the onslaught of holiday shopping that begins bright and early tomorrow. Actually, it’s already begun at many stores but that’s another story. As a geek I’ve had many things to be thankful for this year and I’d like to share a few of them with you guys in no specific order of importance or awesomeness.

Doctor Who: Day of the Doctor

The 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who has come and gone now with a ton of awesome moments. The Night of the Doctor, The Day of the Doctor, Adventure in Space and Time and so many more. For the most part, whovians seems really happy with how things played out in the 50th Special, Day of the Doctor and I can be counted among them. I loved the interaction between John Hurt, David Tennant and Matt Smith. Giving each other a hard time, questioning each other, working together, everything about them being on screen together left me grinning. The return of Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor in Night of the Doctor was a huge surprise, as was the return of Tom Baker as a FUTURE/RETIRED Doctor who is revisiting his old faces? We’ll see how/if that gets explained, ever.

The XBox One and Playstation 4 lead the charge in new gaming systems. I haven’t picked one up yet, as I like to wait for the kinks to get worked out and the price to drop a bit, but I am thoroughly stoked for the new systems and what they have in store for the future of gaming.

Possibly my favorite Marvel hero film (excluding the Avengers), so far. Thor 2 gave us plenty of action, comedy, romance, nerd moments, and general fun that many action films tend to miss out on these days. Hemsworth and Hiddleston play together so well as Thor and Loki, you hope that they are able to continue on in these roles for years to come.

Episode 7 is in pre-production and R2-D2 is confirmed!! Ok, so we don’t know much else yet but…WE’RE GETTING MORE STAR WARS!!!

5. Batman vs Superman…or is it Superman vs Batman?

A sequel to the lackluster Man of Steel, we get a newer/older Batman in Ben Affleck. Rumors continue to circulate about Wonder Woman and Nightwing cameos, but even with that set aside we will finally get to see Batman and Supes interact in a live action capacity. I have faith that Affleck will surprise us with his performance, and hopefully the film sets the stage for a possible Justice League film in the future.

What are YOU thankful for this year in geekdom??
